Bharathi School celebrated the much-awaited Annual Sports Day on the 20th of January 2024 with great enthusiasm. Mrs. R. Vijaya, Head of the Science Department (Middle School), the Chief Guest of the day, was given the guard of honour. Mrs. Vijaya raised the national flag, and Mr. Sararvanan, the Principal, presided over the torch-lighting ceremony. The torchbearers, students outstanding in sports, relayed to herald the spirit of sportsmanship and lit the cauldron to mark the commencement of Sports Day.
Sports Day featured an oath-taking ceremony by the house captains, a spectacular silambam demonstration, and various track & field events. The Silambam Club students showcased their prowess in various forms of silambam, including Alangara Silambam, Bavala, Double Stick Alangara Silambam, Salam Varusai, and the like. The enthusiastic spectators and participants in their respective house uniforms witnessed various athletic events showcasing sportsmanship and competitiveness.
The students with podium finishes were honoured with medals and certificates, and the day culminated with the Truth House lifting the prestigious Siddhappaji trophy for overall achievement. The Charity House finished as the runner-up. Annual Sports Day 2024 was a day filled with zeal, talent, and memories.
The School has taken its name after Subramania Bharathi (popularly known as ‘Mahakavi Bharathi’) pioneer of modern Tamil poetry, a fiery independence activist, a remarkable social reformer, and a journalist. He is an archetype of revolutionary thinking, modern ideas, the invincible spirit of freedom and courage. Bharathi School is a quintessence of his tenets in letter and spirit.
