Bharathi School organised its annual flagship event, Bharathi Darshan, an interdisciplinary art and science exhibition, on November 18, 2023. The event highlighted the talents of students from all classes in various faculties, viz., social sciences, drama, health, language and literature, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and culinary arts.
Bharathi Darshan provided an excellent opportunity for students to showcase innovative ideas, models, and prototypes. Around 1,250 children took part, displaying a wide range of artistic and creative skills. While the IT department demonstrated sophisticated AI talent, the math department exhibited an integrated approach to enhance critical thinking and logical reasoning skills. ‘Know Yourself’, ‘Road Rash’, ‘The Division Machine', and ‘Math Magic’ corners stand as evidence of the versatility of these promising innovators.
The concepts of science covering chemistry, biology, and physics, offered a perfect platform for a pragmatic approach to problem-solving. The social sciences wing celebrated the rich heritage and cultural diversity of the country. The students, through their numerous models, charts, and displays, explained the uniqueness of various monuments like the ‘Srirangam Temple’, the Howrah Bridge, the India Gate, and so on. A model of the Seven Wonders of the World was a treat to the eyes.
The English department focused on different aspects of the language, from conventions to modern usage. While lexical and functional topics dominated the English corners, the Tamil department presented the rich cultural heritage by touching upon the three central aspects of the Sangam Period: Iyal, Isai and Nadagam. The depiction of Moovendargal, namely the Cheran, the Cholan, and the Pandiyan, was a feather on the crown. It was indeed a spectacle to watch the children of grades 6–8 enact the skit. Fashion designing, yoga, and mental wellness were the other areas worth mentioning.
The event not only epitomised teamwork and coordination but also demonstrated student-centred approaches like experiential learning, project-based learning, and problem-based learning followed by the school. The programme enhanced essential skills required in the 21st century, like communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity. The visitors appreciated the efforts of the students and the teachers who supported them.
The School has taken its name after Subramania Bharathi (popularly known as ‘Mahakavi Bharathi’) pioneer of modern Tamil poetry, a fiery independence activist, a remarkable social reformer, and a journalist. He is an archetype of revolutionary thinking, modern ideas, the invincible spirit of freedom and courage. Bharathi School is a quintessence of his tenets in letter and spirit.
