The best way to understand and remember one's culture and tradition is by celebrating it. It is vital to know the roots of traditions, and this was beautifully done on 13th January 2023 at the Bharathi School campus. The students of grades 6 to 9 celebrated the 'Tamizhar Thirunal Pongal' festival. The purpose of celebrating Bhogi, Surya Pongal and Kaanum Pongal is to ring out the old and usher in the new one. This festival marks the bountiful harvest and offers a special Thanksgiving to the Sun God. There were demonstrations of traditional games like silambam, tug of war, rangoli, uri adithal and the Tamil heroic sport Jallikattu to embrace the harvest festival. The tiny tots of the kindergarten classes displayed colourful pots painted by them, captivating the spectators.
The School has taken its name after Subramania Bharathi (popularly known as ‘Mahakavi Bharathi’) pioneer of modern Tamil poetry, a fiery independence activist, a remarkable social reformer, and a journalist. He is an archetype of revolutionary thinking, modern ideas, the invincible spirit of freedom and courage. Bharathi School is a quintessence of his tenets in letter and spirit.
