Bharathi School immersed itself in the vibrant celebration of Pongal on the 12th of January 2024, radiating enthusiasm and fervour. The occasion was marked by the traditional adornment of children in dhotis and pattu pavadai, creating a festive atmosphere. The joyous chanting, "Pongalo Pongal! Pongalo Pongal!" added an extra layer of excitement for the children.
The school premise was transformed into a spectacle of tradition with thoranam, sugarcane displays, colourful kolams, and beautifully decorated pots. The festivities commenced with a special Pongal song, setting the tone for a memorable event. The four-day-long festival, encompassing Bhogi, Surya Pongal, Maatu Pongal, and Kaanum Pongal, was vividly portrayed by the children through dramatic presentations.
Various traditional dance performances, such as Bhogi dance, Kummi attam, Karagattam, Kolattam, Oyilattam, Silambam, Uriadithal, Thappattam, Jallikattu, and the like, captivated the audience.
A celebration highlight was the majestic bullock cart known as 'Rekla,' with bulls adorned with colourful garlands showcasing a unique cultural feature.
Sharing snacks, Pongal, and sweets during the gathering spread joy and fostered a sense of community among the students.
The School has taken its name after Subramania Bharathi (popularly known as ‘Mahakavi Bharathi’) pioneer of modern Tamil poetry, a fiery independence activist, a remarkable social reformer, and a journalist. He is an archetype of revolutionary thinking, modern ideas, the invincible spirit of freedom and courage. Bharathi School is a quintessence of his tenets in letter and spirit.
