The Onam celebration at Bharathi school brought out the best of Kerala's tradition, through many pookalams (flower rangolis) with wide-ranging motifs and patterns at the doorstep of all the classrooms. The pookalams were reminiscent of the past of Kerala that awaited King Mahabali's visit and greeted all the visitors with vibrant hues and the scent of the petals.
The day's highlight was the hallmark colossal pookalam laid by all the students and teachers at the centre of the school ground with flowers of different tints. Children attired in traditional Kerala dresses presented the spectrum of cultural events like Puli Kali, Kathakali, Vallamkali, Kalaripayattu and King Mahabali's homecoming. The Onam festivities transformed Bharathi's atmosphere as in God's own country.
The School has taken its name after Subramania Bharathi (popularly known as ‘Mahakavi Bharathi’) pioneer of modern Tamil poetry, a fiery independence activist, a remarkable social reformer, and a journalist. He is an archetype of revolutionary thinking, modern ideas, the invincible spirit of freedom and courage. Bharathi School is a quintessence of his tenets in letter and spirit.
